Coonskin Park

Located 10 minutes from downtown Charleston, the park includes over a thousand acres of woodland, hiking and biking trails, a handicapped accessible 18 hole par three golf course, an Olympic size pool, picnic shelters of all sizes, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, bike rentals, pedal boat rentals and a modern playground area. Meeting and reception room rentals are also available. Coonskin has recently added a modern amphitheater, 2000 seat soccer stadium and a Wedding Garden.
Programs throughout the year include numerous golf events, athletic events, children's events, nature activities, birding, concerts and a winter light display.

Davis Park
A quiet oasis of greenery linking Capitol and Summers Streets. It features an equestrian statue of Henry G. Davis, U.S. Senator from West Virginia, 1871-83, railroader and vice presidential candidate. Davis is also honored with a copy of this statue in Elkins, West Virginia.

Kanawha State Forest

A favorite for outdoor activities, everything from a small picnic to a full-fledged scouting weekend. 46 campsites offer a variety of ways to rough it. Other activities in this 9,300-acre forest include swimming, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing and year-round horseback riding.
I-64 Exit 58A, then US 119 South to Oakwood Road and follow the signs.
New River Gorge Bridge
The New River Gorge is wonderfully diverse and visually spectacular, hence its nickname "The Grand Canyon of the East". It is renowned for its excellent fishing, rock climbing and mountain biking opportunities, but it is best known for being the home of America's Best Whitewater.
