AWinterplace Ski Resort

Winterplace caps the summit of Flat Top Mountain, the southernmost range of the Allegheny Mountains. I-77 crosses the mountain alongside the resort at more than 3,500-feet above sea level, making Winterplace Ski Resort the most accessible skiing area in West Virginia — even during the most-severe winter snow storms.

BKanawha State Forest

9,300-acres of picnicking, hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing, bird-watching, the forest is known for having some of the best hiking trails in the area and for also hosting events throughout the year.

CMemorial Ice Arena

This state-of-the-art facility is located at the Shops of Trace Fork, along Corridor G (U.S. Route 119 S) with plenty of free parking.The arena has all the amenities, from an arcade to a heated seating area that will accommodate up to 500 spectators. Groups of all sizes are welcome. There are party rooms available to rent, learn-to-skate programs, adult & youth hockey leagues, and a pro-shop for all your skating needs and accessories.

DSnowshoe Ski Resort

Snowshoe Mountain, located in Pocahontas County, is the largest winter resort in the mid-Atlantic. Two black diamond trails comprise an area called The Western Territory, boasting a 1,500 foot vertical drop, 60 percent pitch, and 1.5 miles in length. Two distinct mountains are skiable on one lift ticket.  Skiers and snowboarders will find 15 acres of expanded terrain at the Snowshoe area of the resort. Yew Pine is a half-mile long novice trail. Snowshoe, cross country ski, or take a snowmobile out to the fire tower on the eastern ridge.

The Nutcracker

The Annual Christmas Favorite as performed by the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Charleston Ballet delights adults and kids of all ages. Watch as the performers act out the timeless classic that everyone knows while the Symphony performs at it’s best for the crowds. Always a favorite so check and buy your tickets as early as possible as it sells out quickly.

Capitol Tree Lighting

Every year the Governor and First Lady invite all around to come celebrate as the State’s premier Christmas Tree is lit at the Capitol. An evening of music, special times and the joy of being with the ones you love while seeing the great displays at the State Capitol complex.

St. Albans Festival of Lights

An annual affair, The Festival of Lights in St. Albans is a crowd pleaser and one of the larger attractions during the late fall, early winter season. Volunteers string up thousands of lights, with a new display added every year.

Best Time of the Year

January and Mid-February offer the best conditions for skiing usually.
