With walking and biking trails along the river, this park in the heart of the city allows you to walk along the river and bring your leashed pets. There is not much room along the sidewalks in places, so be careful as at times there may be many people and bikes along the paths.

CCharleston Dog Park

Also known as the Ruth Raferty Peyton Dog Park, located at the corner of E. Washington and Maxwell Streets, is a leash free fenced park. There is not separate fencing for larger and smaller dogs, so they will be in together. There are benches and water access in the park.

Located next to Wal-Mart in the Southridge Shopping Center, Petco provides a pet friendly shopping experience when you need to pick up those extra items for your pet. Open daily 9 AM – 9 PM, they are always there for you and your pet.

Another Pet-friendly shopping place is PetSmart, located just north of the Southridge Shopping Center , in the Shops @ Trace Fork. PetSmart provides a large selection of pet items and needs that makes your life better, by making your pet’s life better.

FKanawha State Forest

With miles of trails and paths for hiking, biking and plenty of place to camp, and just have a party, Kanawha State Forest is a great place to bring your pet. There is plenty of space for them to roam and follow you around as you take it all in. A great place to go so close to the south side of the city.

GKanawha Valley Animal Emergency Services

We never like to think that our friends could need them, but where do you take your best friend, when your vet is closed? The Charleston area is lucky to have a place like the Kanawha Valley Animal Emergency Services, located in South Charleston along the river. They provide Emergency services for all animals from the hours of 7 PM – 7:30 AM.
