Each year, YWCA Charleston honors four Kanawha Valley women for their outstanding personal and professional achievements, as well as their contributions to the community at the annual Women of Achievement luncheon in March. Along with these women, a woman who has overcome obstacles and life challenges through participating in one or more of the YWCA’s programs is selected as the Empowerment Award winner.

As a fundraiser, Women of Achievement supports the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The YWCA programs supported are: YWCA Sojourner’s Shelter for Homeless Women and Families, YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program, YWCA Racial Justice Program, YWCA Mel Wolf Child Development Center, YWCA Shanklin Center for Senior Enrichment, YWCA Alicia McCormick Homes and YWCA Empowerment Homes for Women.
