Join us at the Underground Cinema by WVIFF for April’s Movie That Matter Monday’s film: Before the Flood

About the film:

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio meets with scientists, activists, and world leaders to discuss the dangers of climate change and possible solutions. The film shows DiCaprio visiting various regions of the globe exploring the impact of man-made global warming. As a narrator, DiCaprio comments these encounters as well as archive footages. DiCaprio repeatedly references a 15th-century triptych by Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights, which, he explains, hung above his crib as an infant, and which he uses as an analogy of the present course of the world toward potential ruin as depicted on its final panel.[11] The film also documents, in part, the production of DiCaprio’s 2015 film The Revenant.

About the series:

WVIFF Underground Cinema Presents: Movies That Matter Mondays – Each month, we will work with a community organization to show an issue-oriented and compelling film relating to their mission. At one screening of the film, the community organization will participate in a discussion with the audience. The film will show for the rest of the month on Mondays.

 About the Sponsor:

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non-profit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change.

Their consistently respectful, nonpartisan approach to climate education is designed to create a broad, sustainable foundation for climate action across all geographic regions and political inclinations. By building upon shared values rather than partisan divides, and empowering their supporters to work in keeping with the concerns of their local communities, they work towards the adoption of fair, effective, and sustainable climate change solutions.

What the Critics are Saying:

The film wants to spur individual changes in behavior, but there’s a fair amount in it that might discourage you from even trying.
