Activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the South Plaza Fountain with concert performances by the Cabell Midland High School and Spring Valley High School marching bands and the Capital High School V.I.P.s, according to a flier about the event.

The tree lighting ceremony, which West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice and first lady Cathy Justice are scheduled to attend, is set for 6 p.m.

Following the tree lighting, there will be a 6:30 p.m. Gold Star, armed forces and first responder recognition event in the governor’s reception room at the Capitol. There will be holiday cards for the military signed by the governor and first lady for the Red Cross.

At 7:05 p.m. at the Culture Center, the first lady will announce student ornament contest winners. There will be musical presentations by the Greenbrier Performers and the Musselman High School Exit 5 Jazz Band. The Artistree will be on display, and a menorah will be lighted. Refreshments will be served. Santa also will make a visit.

Outside the Governor’s Mansion, the Brass Quintet from Cabell Midland High School will play Christmas carols.

The evening will be capped off at 7:30 p.m. when the governor and first lady read “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
