Sid Davis

When Sid Davis declared his intention of chasing a life-long dream of being a comedian after retiring from an airline career, he got his first laughs; and not the good kind.

“The dues paying entry phase of the comedy biz is extremely humbling for comics starting in their teens, or even late 30s. I was waaay past that.” Despite his late start, some A-list comics admired Sid’s writing and mentored him. His first break, taping a set for Comedy Time TV, earned the website’s highest ranking spot for twelve weeks. The scouts at the emerging San Luis Obispo Comedy Festival (SLO) took a chance and picked Sid to round out the festival’s line-up.
“I was thrilled being on stage and noticing that Cally people got me.”
“Got him” was an understatement. Sid discovered he was voted to perform in the “Best in Fest” showcase; after he’d already flown home!

The following year Sid returned to SLO and was again voted Best in Fest; this time headlining the showcase in a live broadcast for Sirius XM Comedy Radio.
In 2014 Sid Davis was voted Best in Fest for the third consecutive year!

“The most rewarding aspect of SLO is that the judging is from the audience.”
Comic legend Joan Rivers, seeking a new opening act, s viewed hundreds of comic’s videos. After a few seconds of Sid Davis, Joan declared, “Get him! He’s perfect!”
Joan, making her way back through the wings after the show, stuck her head in Sid’s dressing room, “YOU are terrific! I’m serious. Talk to my manager and when schedules permit, you are at the top of the list!”

Shortly after, Joan’s tragic passing cut the alliance short.

“You can’t imagine,” Sid reflects, “the heart-pounding affirmation I felt when a true comic icon, known for her brutal honesty, pays that high of a compliment; to me!”

After you see Sid Davis and his one-of-a-kind show, you too will declare… “He’s terrific!”
