CHARLESTON SLED HOCKEY, a division of USA Disabled Hockey, is a small sled hockey team based at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena, 20 RHL Boulevard, South Charleston, WV 25309.
Sled hockey is regular hockey, played sitting on sleds, for youth and adults with physical disabilities.
CHARLESTON SLED HOCKEY has received a grant from USA Hockey and the VA to sponsor 2 or 3 Learn Sled for Free Events specifically geared toward physically disabled veterans. This is a wonderful opportunity to try this Paralympic sport. Although geared toward veterans, any physical disabled person can try Sled Hockey for Free on the dates listed below.
These events will be held at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena on the following days: Sunday April 2 from 9:30-11:30am Monday May 1 from 7-9pm and Monday June 19 from 6-8pm Refreshments will be served and you will have the opportunity to get on the ice in a sled. Time on the ice will depend on the number of participants at each event. Volunteers will be available to assist you in getting on and off the ice.
There is no cost associated with the events, but you will need to sign a USA Hockey waiver form and we will need to follow up with each participant, as a condition of the grant reporting. If you have any questions or would like to register, please contact Linda Streets, Team Manager, at 304 342 1459 or l.streets52@gmail.com.
